We talk about Global Brigades all the time at BVC. They are the groups that participate in our fundraising efforts with us, after all. But not everyone knows exactly what Global Brigades is, what they stand for, and the work that they're doing. Let's dive deeper into debunking GB!
By definition, Global Brigades is the "largest student-led global health and development movement." There are various brigade programs, ranging from medical and dental to business and microfinance. The awesome thing about Global Brigades is that it is run by motivated students who are striving to make a difference. Through their holistic approach, student brigaders help to transition communities into ones that are more fully functioning, through activities like dental checkups. Brigades take place over 7-10 day programs where volunteers fully immerse themselves into the developing communities, and help address specific issues regarding which skill program they are involved in. Volunteers are currently in Honduras, Panama, Ghana, and Nicaragua. By working from the ground up, GB has been able to effectively implement and sustain goals and better the communities they work in.
We feel honored to be part of the Global Brigades family and to be able to support this awesome cause. Want to learn more about GB? Of course you do. Check them out here.
